Maria Jesus is the Director of Subsidiary Rights at Berrett-Koehler Publishers.

In 2017 we are celebrating the 25 th anniversary of our founding. From the very beginning, Berrett-Koehler books have been widely translated to many different languages and wonderfully received all over the world. Over the years, we have signed over two thousand foreign translation rights deals. We could not have done this without the tireless work of our translation rights agents around the globe. As part of our year-long celebration, we will be featuring one of these foreign partners every month.  We asked each of them to provide us with a few words describing their experiences working with BK.

This month we are featuring our long time Korean agents, the Eric Yang Agency (EYA). Founded by Eric Yang and Sue Yang 21 years ago, Berrett-Koehler is honored to have been their client from the get go. For several years now, the BK list has been in the capable hands of Jackie Yang and her team. Thanks to their tireless work, our books often find the perfect home in Korea, and some our Korean editions have become huge bestsellers, sometimes even surpassing the number of copies sold in English! We asked this dynamic team to share with us their thougths about working with BK and this is what they wrote:

Congratulations to Berrett-Koehler Publisher’s 25th anniversary!

We are honored to celebrate your 25th anniversary as  part of the Berrett-Koehler foreign rights international community. We are fortunate to have worked with Berrett-Koehler Publishers for the last 21 years, ever since our company’s founding Through those years, we have been built a strong partnership, working on wonderful titles together.

BK is the best publisher who realizes their company values in real life. We have witnessed good examples of stewardship, quality, and partnership by working with the brilliant BK rights team Catherine and Maria Jesus. BK is a great exemple on how to connect people and ideas to create a world that works for all- We admire that BK has been the model to make a difference in the business environment based on their values.

It’s a great pleasure to have the opportunity to share BK’s titles with Korean readers such as REPACKING YOUR BAGS by Leider and Shaping and SHIFTING SANDS by Steve Donahue- Each titles were sold over 70,000 copies and gave hope and direction to people. Likewise, we are proud to be the gateway for BK titles that impact on the Korean readers’ lives, organizations, and communities.

We consider ourselves as  part of BK publisher’s rights team, and we are happy to share the important titles and message to Korean readers like we always have been. We wish the Korean community can continue to realize that “our actions can impact on other people and on the planet” through the awareness of the community, economy and environment after reading BK titles.

Once again, we congratulate BK’s 25th anniversary and we wish all the success for many more years to come. And we hope to celebrate many more anniversaries in the future together!

Best wishes from Seoul,
EYA English Team
