Pavithra Mehta is a writer-filmmaker in a family of 21 eye surgeons. This might explain why she looks for stories that help people see. Her documentary Infinite Vision followed the life and work of Dr. V, her granduncle, winning the Best Documentary award at the New York Independent Film Festival (2004). She's given voice to the Aravind story in diverse venues that include international-development nongovernmental organizations and business schools at Harvard University; the University of California, Berkeley; Stanford University; Columbia University; and the University of Pennsylvania. She has served on the boards of various nonprofits working in education, development, health care, and volunteerism. Currently, she is a board member of both the Aravind Eye Foundation and CharityFocus, an organization that works at the intersection of technology, community, and the gift economy. Her prior experience includes having been communications officer at Aravind in Madurai, where she shaped its print, Web, and film initiatives; she also worked at Benetech, an innovative nonprofit technology company that runs the world's largest digital library of accessible books for the blind. Currently, she co-leads CharityFocus's inspirational news portal DailyGood, as well as its pay-it-forward restaurant, Karma Kitchen. She holds degrees in English literature from Stella Maris College and in broadcast journalism from the Asian College of Journalism. Rumi, coffee, and hillsides help her write.
